Recently the Midwest Media Educators Association (MMEA) held a virtual student video festival and eight videos created by Maine West and Maine South students were presented with awards in various categories.
Two students from Maine West were nominated for Crystal Pillars from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), the same association that awards Emmys to professionals. Senior Claire Padar received a nomination in the Animation category for her short film, A Couple of Cuties. Sophomore Estelle Ghinea received a nomination in Arts and Entertainment for her piece, The Varsity Athlete, on Carter Stephen joining the football team for a day.
MSFB: The Vision by senior Mackenzie Kron from Maine South placed first in the School Promotion category. The video was also awarded a Crystal Pillar for Editing by NATAS.
One Hour by senior Aidan Gentile from Maine South placed first in the Comedic Narrative category for MMEA.
Boxed In produced by Aidan Gentile, Hayden Zima, Christian Papelera, Aly Trunzo, and many others in WMTH, Maine South’s broadcasting club, placed fourth in the 7-Day Film Challenge category for MMEA.
Junior Maya Gherman from Maine West took fifth place in the Demonstration category for MMEA with her video, How to Pack a Suitcase.
Farm to Table by senior Bianca Franco from Maine South placed fifth in the Documentary category for MMEA. This was a combined effort with a student from Lake Forest High School and a student from Oak Park River Forest High School as part of a Summer program sponsored by Apple called Chicago Summer Stories.
The Warrior Weekly show, produced by Maine West’s broadcasting club, WMTH, took fifth place in the News Program category.
