Department Information
With students and families from around the world in Maine 207 schools and with Maine 207 alumni living and working in locations around the world, the personal and career benefits of learning and understanding multiple languages and cultures is apparent. Through this process, students will better understand their own culture and increase their global awareness. A four-year sequence is recommended for optimum success in second language acquisition. Students are able to learn a number of different languages, and if they participate in Advanced Placement courses, they have the opportunity to earn college credit for those experiences.
Five world languages are currently offered at Maine South High School: French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish. A four-year sequence is recommended for optimum success in second language acquisition.
Please see WORLD LANGUAGE MULTILINGUAL Courses for more information.
Seal of Biliteracy
Maine Township High School District 207 is proud to participate in the Seal of Biliteracy program, which recognizes students who have attained a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English. This Seal of Biliteracy also carries national recognition. Additional information on requirements and testing will be made available at a later date.
