Purpose and role of Athletic Trainers
The Maine South High School Athletic Training Program strives to enhance the quality of health care to student-athletes through prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Student-athletes are assisted with nutritional, physiological and psychological needs.

Licensed, Certified Athletic Trainers are qualified to evaluate injuries, apply preventative materials, counsel athletes on nutrition and conditioning, and under a physician’s guidance rehabilitate any athletic injuries. The athletic training department at Maine South has a fully operational rehabilitation area, which provides treatment after school for many of the injuries Maine South athletes incur. There is also a compliment of tapes and braces to ensure safe athletic play.

If student-athletes have an injury or illness and need to visit a physician, a note from the physician is to be turned in to the Athletic Training Department. If the student needs rehabilitation and parents would like assistance from the Athletic Trainers, a note from the treating physician and/or physical therapist is necessary. If a student-athlete needs a medical appliance (i.e. inhaler, epi-pen), an extra appliance should be brought to the Athletic Training Department to be kept in case of emergency.
