Good Afternoon Maine South Students and Parents,
This message is to inform you of District 207’s “Pass/No Grade” option for students.
The Pass/No Grade procedure was developed to give students new opportunities for learning without the pressure of grades. Passing grades received under the Pass/No Grade system are designated on grade reports and official transcripts as a “P”. Failing grades received under the Pass/No Grade system are designated on grade reports and official transcripts as an “NG”. A “P” or “NG” grade will not be computed in a student’s total grade point average.
Students may take any one-quarter, one-half credit or one credit course during the regular school year Pass/No Grade according to the following guidelines:
- Students may petition to take course(s) for a Pass/NG Grade only if they are registered for five or more full credit courses. If an approved class drop results in a student taking fewer than five classes for a letter grade, the Pass/No Grade course will revert to a letter grade.
- Eligible courses include elective courses, literacy classes and physical education.
- Courses required for graduation may not be taken Pass/No Grade except for courses taken to complete the two-year graduation requirement in Applied Arts and Technology, Fine Arts, or World Language.
- Accelerated, Advanced Placement and/or Dual Credit classes may not be taken Pass/No Grade.
- Students must meet all prerequisites for admission to any class they wish to take Pass/No Grade.
Reminder: If you submitted a Pass/NG form for a year-long class, during the first semester, you have been granted Pass/NG status for the second semester. You are also permitted to submit a Pass/NG request for a year long course in the spring. In this case, the P or NG grade will apply to both semester 1 and semester 2. Once approved, a Pass/NG can not be rescinded.
If you wish to take a course on a Pass/NG basis for the second semester of the 2023-24 school year, you must complete and submit the signed Pass/NG form to your counselor by 3:30 p.m. on Friday,May 3, 2024. Please read the form carefully.
Please talk with your counselor if you have any questions regarding Pass/NG options.
Thank you!
