Pass/No Grade (P/NG) Option – Important Information for Students and Families
Dear Parents and Guardians,
District 207 offers a Pass/No Grade (P/NG) option to allow students to explore new learning experiences without the pressure of traditional grades or impact on their GPA.
How It Works
- Passing Grades: Shown as “P” on report cards and transcripts
- Failing Grades: Shown as “NG” on report cards and transcripts (representing a “No Grade”)
- GPA Impact: Neither “P” nor “NG” is factored into a student’s GPA
Eligibility & Course Guidelines
- Students may petition for P/NG only if enrolled in more than four full-credit courses. If a class drop results in fewer than four letter-graded courses, the P/NG class will revert to a letter grade.
- Eligible Courses: Electives (non-accelerated), Literacy classes, Physical Education, and courses fulfilling the two-year graduation requirement in Applied Arts & Technology, Fine Arts, or World Languages.
- Not Eligible: Courses required for graduation (except those noted above) and any Accelerated, AP, or Dual Credit courses.
- Students must meet all course prerequisites.
Important Updates for This Year
- New Request Each Semester: A new P/NG request form must be submitted every semester, since all courses are now semester-based.
- Irrevocability: Once approved, a P/NG request cannot be rescinded.
- Grade Visibility: Letter grades will appear in Infinite Campus during the semester, but the final grade will display as “P” or “NG” on the transcript.
If you wish to take a course on a Pass/NG basis, you must submit your school’s designated form by the Semester 2 deadline indicated below. Please note: The form requires both student and parent consent/electronic signatures.
